PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Happy Cyber Monday, Pittsburgh!

The National Retail Federation expects around 69 million American shoppers to participate in Cyber Monday shopping today.

However, shoppers are advised to use caution while making purchases online.

“Use common sense and pay attention to the sites that you are buying from,” National Retail Federation Spokesman Katherine Cullen told KDKA Radio. “Buy from places that you trust and use best practices when protecting passwords and login information.”

Cullen told KDKA Radio that stores are looking for ways to make your experience safer by thwarting hackers.

“Retailers are definitely paying attention to this and are investing in technology to make things more secure,” Cullen said.

Experts recommend you avoid website operated overseas. They also recommend that you try to use just one credit card for all your online purchases this shopping season, so it’s easier to track fraudulent activity.
