PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Nearly $100 million has been granted to Port Authority Bus Rapid Transit Service.

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald tells KDKA Radio this plan will be much more cost effective than other proposals to improve Pittsburgh’s public transportation.

“It might cost $2 to $3 billion dollars to try to build a light rail system, but using striping, using technology, using signaling, you can accomplish almost the same thing at a much less cost,” Fitzgerald said.

President Donald Trump tweeted that money will “connect Pittsburghers to their two largest commercial employment centers through safe, quick transit service.”

“Great things coming to a great State”, President Trump concluded.

The project is expected to be competed over the next couple of years
