PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — There will be a tight tailgate schedule for football fans going to Saturday’s Pitt vs. Penn State game.

Lots will open at 9 a.m. for the 1:05 p.m. baseball game, but no tailgating will be allowed in ALCO parking lots from 1:30 to 5 p.m. while the Pirates play the Marlins.

All vehicles without a pre-sold parking pass for the 8 p.m. Pitt game must exit the lots 30 minutes after the end of the Pirates game.

Those parking for the Pitt game will not be able to enter pre-sold lots until after 5 p.m.

ALCOParking manager Ralph Reetz tells the KDKA Radio morning News, all is not lost looking to park and party.

“For fans wanting to tailgate, the PPG Paints Arena is going to open their parking lots starting at one o’clock,” Reetz said. “From there it’s a convenient ride over on the T to the stadium.”

The Jim Shorkey North and South Lots at the Arena will cost $15 per car. Spots can be reserved here.

The Light Rail will continue to provide service from the South Hills with service to the North Shore and free service to and from Downtown. Rider should allow for extra travel time due to large crowds.

Fans are encouraged to park in one of the available Pittsburgh Parking Authority garages Downtown, but they will not be able to tailgate in those facilities.

“We’ll have the Convention Center garage available for $5. There’s parking at 11th and Smallman Streets for $5,” Reetz said.

The Convention Center garage will open at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Carnegie Science Center parking lot will open at 5 p.m. and is presold through Parking Panda. A limited number of spaces may be available for purchase on game day for $75 cash on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Fans can also park at Station Square and ride the Gateway Clipper shuttle boats to the stadium.

Other ALCO facilities will also be open Downtown including 1st Ave. Garage, Mellon Garage, Convention Center, Manor Garage, Oxford Garage, Nova Place Garage and the Manor Garage will also be open.

The Clemente Bridge will close to vehicular traffic beginning at 10 a.m. for the Pirates game and will reopen to outgoing North Shore traffic only, 30 to 40 minutes after the final pitch.
