DEP Issues Orange Ozone Action Day In Southwestern PA

Children, the elderly and those with respiratory problems are advised to limit their time outside.

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Friday is a Code Orange air quality day in the Pittsburgh region. That includes Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington, and Westmoreland Counties

High pressure with mostly sunny skies, temperatures in the high 80s and light surface face “will act to promote ozone development into the code ORANGE range during the afternoon hours.”

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection says children, the elderly and those with respiratory problems are advised to limit their time outside.

In a statement the DEP says, to help keep the air healthy, residents and business are encouraged to voluntarily restrict certain pollution-producing activities by:

  •              Refueling cars and trucks after dusk
  •              Setting air conditioner thermostats to a higher temperature
  •             Carpooling or using public transportation
  •             Combining errands to reduce trips.
