HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - After a US Supreme Court ruling earlier this month made it possible, state gaming regulators today took the first steps to bring sports betting to Pennsylvania.

The Gaming Control Board has approved initial, temporary regulations under which Pennsylvania casinos may offer sports betting and spokesman Doug Harbach says any day now the board will give the go-ahead to those in-state casinos to apply for a sports wagering license.

“As soon as we announce to the casinos – very soon -- that they can start sending in certificates to ask and request for approval of this, then those can move forward. They’re going have to outline in that a number of things that are stated in the law and in our regulations as far as what the sports book is going to look like, where it’s going to be, those type of things.” Said Harbach

For that reason, Harbach says the casinos may need some time to put together their applications.

He declined to offer a possible time frame for the start of sports betting in Pennsylvania.
