HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The state House has approved a bill intended to address a court ruling that has put Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana research program in jeopardy.

In a case brought by numerous dispensaries and grower/processors, a Commonwealth Court judge last month issued an injunction against the research component of the medical marijuana law.

Tuesday, the state House passed a bill sponsored by the author of the research provisions, Republican Kathy Watson, who said the measure would clear up any confusion about what the legislature intended.

“We’ve worked very hard so that indeed, real research not only will have the opportunity to occur, but it’s going to be required to occur.” Said Watson.

The bill now goes to the Senate, where it is unclear if it will be taken up before lawmakers’ summer recess, which may come sooner than expected with the legislature on track to wrap up work on the budget ahead of schedule.
