HARRISBURG (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — The recommendations of Pennsylvania's school safety task force were announced Monday.

Governor Tom Wolf and Auditor General Eugene DePasquale created the panel following the Parkland shooting.

Following the release of initial findings in June, the task force held community meetings throughout the state. Each meeting included over 40 community participants invited to create a discussion focused on the needs of that region.

The task force also received feedback through online surveys in order to identify multiple themes, including recommendations, barriers and opportunities.

The resulting recommendations include increased access to mental health services including more health professionals in schools, effective integration of law enforcement and school resource officers and providing schools with more resources.

The report goes on to suggest improving communication and information sharing, enhancing social and emotional learning, building community connections, and providing guidance on establishing priorities for schools.

In March @GovernorTomWolf and Auditor General Depasquale announced the launch of a School Safety Task Force to hear from law enforcement, community leaders, teachers, staff, & most importantly: students. Their goal was, first & foremost, to listen to what they think should be done to make our schools safer.

KDKA Radio's Marty Griffin spoke with Auditor General Depasquale about the launch of  the School Safety Task Force. "Where there be a standard recommendation statewide on how to improve school safety in Pa,  and will it be enforced at some point?" "There will be a host of recommendations that will include mental health, school building facilities etc." says Depasquale.
