PA Speaker Of The House Mike Turzai Announces Retirement From Politics

He tells KDKA Radio it is time to give other people the opportunity to lead

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pennsylvania House Speaker Mike Turzai announced Thursday will not seek re-election.

“It’s just been an honor to represent people but there’s a time to pass on the torch, to pass on the opportunity to lead to some others,” Turzai told Marty Griffin on KDKA Radio.

Turzai became speaker in 2015, and has served in the House since 2001.

Turzai serves the 28th district of PA with is make up of Marshall, McCandless, Pine Bradford woods and Franklin Park.

 He hopes to move into the private sector.

There is speculation he is taking a job with water utility Aqua America, but Turzai said he has does not yet know where he will be working.

Aqua America is buying Pittsburgh-based Peoples gas.
