HARRISBURG (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — Pennsylvania's unemployment rate is lower than it's been in 18 years at 4.1 percent.

The Department of Labor and Industry says this is the third month in a row that employment rose and unemployment fell.

The unemployment rate dropped one-tenth of a percentage point from June. Over the year, the Pennsylvania unemployment rate declined by seven-tenths of a percentage point.

A survey of households found the civilian labor force grew by 9,000. But a separate survey of employers showed payrolls shrank by about 4,900 in August.

Education and health services jobs rose to a record high last month as well.
