PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Another major closure of the Parkway East is coming this weekend.

The closure will last on the outbound side from 8 p.m. Friday, June 28 through 5 a.m. Monday, July 1 between the Forbes Avenue/Oakland off-ramp and the Edgewood/Swissvale interchange.

PennDOT's Sheryl Moon-Sirianni tells KDKA Radio, the closures are to wrap some unfinished work from last summer.

“Last year we couldn’t get to the expansion dams that were closest to the Squirrel Hill tunnel to replace them and there is still some work on a couple of the expansion dams on the Frazier Street Bridge,” said Sirianni.

Detours will be posted but PennDOT's Steve Cowan tells KDKA Radio, motorists should try to avoid the area all together.

“We’ve seen in the past when we’ve done work that the Squirrel Hill Tunnel sometimes it delays up to two or three hours on the detour route,” said Cowan

Oakland and Wilkinsburg will see heavy traffic, police will be posted at major intersections.

Several ramps onto I-376 will close at 7 p.m. Friday, along with the INBOUND off-ramp to Squirrel Hill/Homestead.

The inbound off-ramp to Squirrel Hill-Homestead will also close, along with a single inbound lane between the Saline Street Bridge and Bates Street.
