PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — A westbound shutdown is coming to the Parkway East in the downtown area, starting the day after Christmas.

Weather permitting, the closure will run from 6 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26 until 8 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 30. from the Boulevard of the Allies to Grant St.

376 WB will reopen at least two hours before the 1p.m. Steelers game against Cincinnati.

“We have a big chunk of area down there by the Allegheny County Jail that actually needs full reconstruction,” PennDOT District 11 Executive Cheryl Moon-Sirani told the KDKA Radio Morning News.

“It was built in the mid-eighties and if you drive you can tell there’s a lot of distress and it needs totally reconstructed.”

There will also be expansion dam work.

PennDOT is taking advantage of lighter traffic during the holidays to complete the work, avoiding five weekend closures in the spring.
