HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - It was a historic fiscal year for the Pennsylvania Lottery.

Officials say the lottery recorded over $4.2 billion in sales for the 2017-18 fiscal year, while also paying out $2.7 billion in prizes.

Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko says the real winners were older Pennsylvanians, which the lottery paid $1 billion to last year.

“Record sales are great news for older Pennsylvanians as well. They benefit from the profit we generate through programs like prescription drug assistance, property tax and rent rebate and a whole host of others.”

He adds scratch off sales alone generated $2.8 billion, up nearly $100 million from last fiscal year.

Net revenue for lottery funds jumped by nearly $50 million, sales of draw games was up by nearly $35 million and fast play game sales totaled $114 million.
