PITCAIRN, Pa (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The COVID-19 pandemic has brought many closures to businesses, cancelations to events, religous ceremonies and celebrations.

Many will be celebrating Easter this weekend without visits from family or friends, Easter egg hunts or visits with the main bunny of the holiday.

One Pittsburgh area police department is trying to change part of that reality.

On Saturday at 11am, Pitcairn Police will be escorting the Easter Bunny throughout the small town in the eastern suburbs.

In a video posted to the department's Facebook page, Police Chief Scott Farally said the department along with the Parks and Recreation Department and Camp G wanted to do something for the children and the community. "The Easter Bunny is coming to town," exclaimed Farally.  He said they're doing this "so all the children can actually enjoy themselves this Easter.

"Make sure the kids are there, out on the porch, keeping their distance, making sure they see the Easter Bunny.  Remember - you can't keep the Easter Bunny down!"

The Chief will also be handing out filled Easter eggs, while wearing personal protective equipment.
