PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - There's an emergency training exercise taking place Wednesday evening at Pittsburgh International Airport.

About 500 airport employees, emergency responders and volunteers will take part.

The exercise starting at 5 p.m. will simulate an aircraft emergency at a gate and may feature smoke.

The airport says in a release, “The exercise is designed to measure readiness, functionality and effectiveness of the airport’s emergency plan through actual mobilization of resources and personnel who would be dispatched in the event of a real emergency”.

Signs and messages about the drill will be posted in the terminal and incoming aircraft will be notified.

Normal airport operations will not be affected.
