PITTSBURGH INT’L AIRPORT (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – Pittsburgh International Airport is getting a new airline and three new non-stop destinations. CEO Christina Cassotis says Via Airlines will begin non-stop flights this spring and summer to Birmingham, Alabama; Memphis, Tennessee; and Hartford, Connecticut. Via will offer service to Austin, Texas through Memphis.

“Pittsburgh is an amazing city and we’re delighted to introduce non-stop service to both its business and leisure travelers,” said Via Director of Business Development Don Bowman.

Via is a regional carrier now serving 19 cities. It offers what it calls low-cost, high-value flights on 50 seat Embraer ERJ-145 jets. Via says with its 2:1 seat configuration no guest is subject to the dreaded middle seat.

Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis says, “non-stop service is critical to our business and we’re excited to welcome Via which recognizes out strong market.” She says Hartford is an important market because it is a financial center. She cites US Steel’s business in Birmingham and the Fed Ex connection to Memphis.

The flights will start this spring and summer and fly four days a week.
