PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – A new ranking of America’s big cities indicates Pittsburgh is not the most livable, but close. The survey for Wallet Hub ranks Pittsburgh 17th. The city did well in criteria like education level, income growth, job opportunities, access to public transportation, and walkability. Ironically, Pittsburgh ranked 53rd for biking even with the explosion of bike lanes that have caused some long- time residents to scowl.

Wallet Hubs’ Adam McCann says urban America contains about 80 percent of the U.S. population. “Big cities represent opportunity, economic and otherwise, which appeals to people of all walks of life.” But he says there are tradeoffs too. “Higher cost of living is a concern, along with pollution, traffic delays, and limited living space.”

Seattle topped the Wallet Hub survey. Virginia Beach was 2nd, Austin, Texas 3rd. Acvross the state Philadelphia came in 49th. Cleveland was 60th, Detroit last at 62nd.
