July 11, 2018 - 5:10 pm

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The annual Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is bringing thousands of classic car buffs to town this week.  The race is Sunday at Schenley Park, but pre-race events are taking place all week.  Some classic Chevys, Fords, and BMWs were on display Wednesday at Market Square.

The Vintage Grand Prix is a fundraiser for the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny Valley School, which assists children with developmental disabilities.  The annual event has raised more than $5 million to date.

Spectators can expect more BMWs than usual this year.  The BMW Car Club of America decided to make the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix its “Oktoberfest” event.

Car cruisers will enjoy a “countryside tour” Thursday beginning in Ligonier at 10:00 AM.

The winner of Sunday’s amateur race will receive a mini-keg of German beer.
