PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Residents of the Majestic Hills housing plan in North Strabane have heard details of a plan to stabilize a landslide that threatens their community.

Truckloads of dirt are being hauled out beneath Majestic and Oakwood Drives to make way for a retaining wall.

North Strabane manager Andrew Walz tells the KDKA Radio Morning News they've got to create space for an eventual retaining wall between Oakwood and Forest Lane Drives.

“The Contractor that’s been doing the grating at the base of the hillside on Forest Lane will continue to excavate and remove fill from that location.”

The same company that built a retaining wall to support Route 30 in East Pittsburgh has been called in to design the wall.

But it's too late for the occupants of three homes, two of which were demolished over the weekend. A third will come down soon.

Waltz says the developer Ryan Homes will be asked to compensate the township and three families that lost their homes.

“Ultimately the developer is responsible for all of this and we’re keeping tabs of the amount of time we have out there and we’re going to be talking to [the developer].”
