Undercover Police Officer Shot In Shopping Center On McKnight Road

The officer is in stable condition, a suspect is dead

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - There was an officer-involved shooting Tuesday afternoon in the Big Lots parking lot on McKnight Road in the North Hills.

Allegheny County Police Superintendent Coleman McDonough says narcotics agent with the state attorney general's office was wounded during an exchange in gunfire around 1 p.m. 

"He was transported to (Allegheny General Hospital), happy to say he's in stable condition," said McDonough. "He conscience and alert and he's talking to his family."

The Office of the Pennsylvania Attorney General released a statement about the shooting: 

"The OAG officer involved in today's shooting was shot twice and is in stable condition with no life-threatening injuries. This incident occurred during an operation by our Bureau of Narcotics Investigations. The Attorney General plans to travel to Allegheny County to visit with the officer and his family." 

31-year-old suspect Omari Thompson was shot and killed.

Multiple police departments were on the scene including West View, Ross Township, Allegheny County Sheriffs Office as well as the medical examiner.

County Police investigate all officer-involved shootings.

This incident occurred at the same time Pittsburgh Police were laying to rest fallen Officer Calvin Hall on Tuesday.
