PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Good news for public transportation riders in Pittsburgh.  A new survey shows they're mostly pleased with the Port Authority, despite the agency's struggles to attract new riders.

The survey was conducted by Consultant TransPro and included bus and light-rail riders from around the country.

Here in Pittsburgh, 45 percent of bus riders and slightly more than half of all light-rail riders gave positive marks to the Port Authority. The national average is only about 33 percent.

Those surveyed were especially satisfied with on-time performance, but some did complain about seat availability and cleanliness.

Port Authority said in a statement: "We were pleasantly surprised by the results of the survey, but it’s only the beginning of the conversation. We plan to use this survey and others like it to identify future improvements to make riding public transit in Allegheny County not just a good option, but the best one.”
