Port Authority Police Not Working With ICE

CEO Katherine Kelleman says they want all riders to feel safe

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A message from the head of the Allegheny County Port Authority to recent immigrants.

CEO Katherine Kelleman says Port Authority police do not work with Immigrant and Customs Enforcement.

She sent the massage at Friday’s board meeting so that immigrants will feel safe if they need to go to transit officers if they need help.

And God forbid somebody sees a package that is unattended and they’re too worried to talk to our police officers to be able to share that safety for all of us,” said Kelleman. “Everyone riding deserves to ride with dignity and respect and not have to worry that this is the last trip they are going to take with their family.”

Pittsburgh has not been part of a recent warning from ICE officials that they would be stepping up raids on immigrants who may be here illegally.
