A first-time father had to watch the birth of his child over FaceTime while awaiting his COVID-19 test results.

Good Morning America reported that Jack Hedges of Bedford, New York watched his daughter Adrienne come into the world via FaceTime during the COVID-19 global pandemic.

"It was a joyous, but surreal experience," Hedges said.

It was on March 27 when Hedges began showing symptoms of coronavirus, which included a high fever. His fever peaked at 103.5, and since his wife was pregnant, he wanted to get tested.

"For about three days after that, I was pretty much bedridden," Hedges added. "It was the sickest I've ever been in my life.

On April 4, Hedges was able to make an appointment to get tested at Westchester Medical Center. After he got tested, he went back to the quarantined area of his home. Suddenly his wife Valeri Hedges yelled that her water broke, and it was time to have their baby. Her original due date was May 5.

"Here we are a month early, I'm still sick, and I can't go to the hospital with her," Hedges said.

He said during those moments, he panicked about not being able to go to the hospital with his wife.

Valeri drove herself to the hospital, and once she arrived, she tested negative for COVID-19. Doctors were ready to FaceTime him from the delivery room. The next day he watched his daughter's birth and also found out that he tested negative for this virus.

After receiving the results, the first time father was able to visit and meet his daughter.
