WASHINGTON (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pennsylvania Congressman Mike Doyle thinks President Trump will end up declaring a national emergency to circumvent Congress to fund a border wall.

The Democrat out of the 18th Congressional district says he doesn’t think the president have given himself much of a choice.

“I really think that’s what he’s going to do. He’s painted himself into a corner that he can’t get out of now. He’s said basically he won’t sign any bills until gets $5.7 billion for a wall,” said Doyle. “Democrats in the house are not going to give him $5.7 billion for the wall. Therefore we’re at an impasse that neither side can move from.”

If the president does declare a national emergency funds will be used from the defense department to begin construction.

Doyle says if Trump does go that route it will be challenge in court.

“Of course that will be challenged in the courts whether it’s constitutional or not and it will get tied up in the courts but he will at least be able say you know ‘I did it’ . . . and if it doesn’t happen because the court say he can’t do it, it’s the court’s fault and not his.”
