PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — 100,000 people are expected at this year's Rib Fest at Heinz Field.

The smoke starts rising Thursday with a 7 p.m. “Party on the Plaza.”

There will be concerts, a 5-k and a football clinic for kids during the five-day event.

Heinz Field spokesperson Nick Sero told Larry and John on KDKA Radio that the only thing attendees will have to pay for is the barbeque and the Pitt season opener on Saturday against UVA.

“We’re going to have a big-screen TV playing the Steelers’ final pre-season game out there [Thursday night],” Sero said. “That is absolutely free.”

Physical sports not your speed?

“We have the Pittsburgh Knights esports team setting up a whole arcade with retro arcade games and console games,” Sero said. “Guess what? That is also completely free.”

Rib Fest runs 12 to 11 p.m. every day through Monday.
