Route 30 Re-Opens After Lengthy Closure For Landslide Repairs

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Route 30 in East Pittsburgh has re-opened after a lengthy closure for landslide repair. Here's KDKA Radio's Shelby Cassesse.

The roadway near Electric Avenue collapsed on April 7 causing a landslide that displacing 31 people that lived nearby.

PennDOT’s district executive Cheryl Moon-Sirianni commended crews for their quick response.

“The contractor really got started around April 27 so we’re 60 days to open this huge repair to this slide.”

Moon-Citriani says it appears to be an isolated incident in the near as the surrounded roadway is supported by rock. The portion that fell appears to have been a fill-section made by those that constructed the roadway in the 1930s.
