PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - School lunches have changed substantially over the years and nutrition has become a key factor.

“I think schools are doing a tremendous job and they’ve gotten a bad rap unnecessarily, trying to not only meet the guidelines, but to prepare food that kids will eat,” said Leslie Bonci, owner of Active Eating Advice, during an interview with KDKA Radio on Tuesday.

So school districts are serving students the proper nourishment for growing and thinking. Protein and produce are a big part of that.

When packing for your child, Bonci suggests to include veggies for dipping or slices of fruit; sometimes kids are not going to eat a whole apple, unless it is chopped up.

You can listen to the whole interview with Bonci below for more information on school lunches.
