Sean Rodriguez Sees Similarities Between These Pirates And The Overachieving Rays Teams He Played On

S-Rod Said He Sees Plenty Of Reasons For Optimism This Year

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The FAN) - At this time of year, the phrase "hope springs eternal" applies to most teams in Major League Baseball.  While there is much pessimism about the Pirates this year, Sean Rodriguez is one of the guys looking at things in a positive light.

"I truly think that we definitely can win," Rodriguez told our Joe Starkey.  "I keep trying to tell a lot of guys, when I was in Tampa, we were the surprise team every year...And I'm going to keep preaching it, pitching and defense wins games...and I feel like we got that."

When asked if he's back to 100% following the horrific car accident he and his family were in prior to last season, Rodriguez said "Oh no, stronger than I was before.  I'm ready to go!"

Having been known throughout his career as a guy who plays multiple positions, S-Rod talked about his goals each year and if they involved finding just one position.

"The goal is always to play every day...I've always wanted to be an every day guy, not in the sense where I carry only one glove, I just want to play everyday on the filed just cause I know I can contribute that much more than what I have in my career.  There's so much more in there that I want to let out and the Pirates do a good job at trying to keep me out there as much as possible."
