Second Lady Gisele Fetterman Is Ready For Carnival

The annual event before Lent will be celebrated in Pittsburgh on Feb. 22

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Second Lady of Pennsylvania is ready to celebrate Carnival.

Lt. Governor John Fetterman posted a photo of his wife Gisele in a traditional Carnival dancer outfit with the caption,

“Waiting on confirmation from our PA Historian, gonna go out on a limb, that

@giselefetterman is the 1st, Second Lady, Carnival do Brasil dancer for Pennsylvania.”

Mrs. Fetterman received some backlash online for her outfit but she quickly dismissed it and told PennLive it is a “really fun time” for her and gives her a chance to celebrate her native country of Brazil.

She tells KDKA Radio there at least four Carnival events happening around Pittsburgh and she plans to attend at least one of them.

Carnival or Carnaval is a celebration that occurs the Friday afternoon before Ash Wednesday and runs through noon on Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, a 40 day period Christians observe before Easter.

Carnival begins on February 21 this year and include elaborate costumes, masks, parties, music and dancing.

The first celebration takes place on Saturday, February 15 from 3-7 p.m. at the William Pitt Union on Pitt’s campus.

Cake Pittsburgh in the Strip District will celebrate on February 22 at 9 p.m. with Latin and Caribbean music.

Also on February 22, Carnival will be celebrated at Casa Brasil on Bryant Street in Highland Park from 9 p.m. – 1 a.m.

And the entire family can celebrate Carnival on March 29 at Casa Brasil from 2-5 p.m. with live music, face painting and a mini parade.

Mrs. Fetterman is currently working on a campaign that aims to increase response from Pennsylvanians for the 2020 Census, as well as many other projects.
