It could be the most disruptive part of the Parkway North reconstruction project

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Watch for delays on a new section of the I-279 reconstruction project on the North Shore, starting at 7 p.m. Monday.

PennDOT's Steve Cowan tells KDKA Radio the affected area is northbound.

“Once you get beyond [PNC Park] and you’re approaching the off-ramp to [Route] 28 . . . two lanes are going to be squeezed down to one lane,” said Cowan.

It will stay that way until around the clock until August 14th. North Shore traffic on East General Robinson Street can no longer merge left to 279. Those drivers must exit at Chestnut Street to access 279.

Cowan says it could be the most disruptive park of the project.

“We definitely anticipate congestion issues, particularly in the afternoon rush hour.”

Adding to that, the southbound Route 65 to northbound 279 ramps reopens Tuesday morning at 6 a.m., creating a new merge point.
