WASHINGTON - (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pennsylvania US Senator Bob Casey is among those defending the Affordable Care Act as a three judge panel in New Orleans decides if the law as it stands in Constitutional.

The federal appeals court is reviewing a lower court ruling that when Congress in 2017 eliminated the tax on people who don't have insurance, the entire law became invalid.

Casey says losing Obamacare would hurt millions.

“We know that 20 million people plus, more than 20 million will lose coverage right away if this lawsuit is successful, there’s no backup plan,” said Casey.

“This is an effort by a corporate White House led by corporate Republicans in the House and Senate to do in the courts what they couldn’t do in the halls of Congress when we stopped them in 2017,” added Casey

Casey says because of the Affordable Care Act, 89,000 Pennsylvanians have coverage because they can stay on their parents insurance until they are 26.

The case will likely end up before the US Supreme Court.
