PITTSBURGH, Pa (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Motorists on either side of the Sewickley Bridge will learn more this week about PennDOT's plans to renovate the aging structure.

Work on the nearly 40-year-old bridge will start next spring and problems with the bridge are generally attributed to its age.

"The bridge was built in 1981, so we are starting to see some issues wtih the bridge deck itself," PennDOT's Steve Cowan told KDKA Radio's Joe DeStio on Monday afternoon. "If you drive across it, you've probably noticed some problems."

The bridge will receive a new deck overlay, ramp paving, deck joint replacement and possibly some steel beam work.

PennDOT will explain what's planned for the bridge, including a 10-14 day full closure, in a public meeting Thursday evening . It will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Sewickley Public Library.
