HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pennsylvania could soon become the fourth state to raise the minimum age for buying tobacco and vaping products from 18 to 21.

The state Senate passed the change 43-6 and now the measure is heading to the House.

Monroe County Republican Senator Mario Scavello authored the bill. He believes it will help deter younger people from smoking believing those that are 18 won’t be able to buy tobacco for their 16 and 17 year old friends any longer

The other states to raise the minimum age are Ohio, New York and Maryland.

Democratic Governor Tom Wolf has expressed he would sign the bill if it reaches his desk.
