Big things expected from new QB Mason Rudolph

Steelers Training Camp

USA Today

(PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Steelers training camp kicks off this afternoon in Latrobe.

Ed Bouchette, Steelers writer for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, joined KDKA Radio on Wednesday to get the fans ready.

The camp opens up with the same headline as last year; Le’Veon Bell’s future. Bouchette says,

“It’s a little different this year because it’s going to be his last season with the Steelers.”

Although Bell will be missed, it allows other players to see work. Bouchette tells KDKA,

“It gets the other guys more work; James Conner and Jalen Samuels.” He continued,

“It should help them, but ideally the Steelers and Mike Tomlin would like to have Le’Veon Bell there.”

Mason Rudolph was also a topic in the conversation.

After falling to the third round, the Steelers could not pass on him. According to Bouchette,

“They had him rated in the first round. They drafted him in the third, that’s the highest they drafted a quarterback since Ben in 04’.” He added,

“The kid looked good in the Spring, so there’s going to be a lot of interest there.”

A rookie from Oklahoma State, Rudolph is expected to replace Ben Roethlisberger when he decides to retire.

“He was not happy they drafted a quarterback,”

Bouchette said when referring to the veteran Roethlisberger.

The first practice that fans can attend is tomorrow, July 26.
