PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - "American Idol" viewers picked someone else as this season's winner instead of Gabby Barrett. The Munhall teen was the first of the finalists to go last night.

The result comes as a shock because Gabby received glowing reviews from the Idol judges and was considered in numerous reports the favoroite to win the competition.

Barrett's supporters are disappointed, but proud. Munhall Mayor Rick Brennan tells the KDKA Radio Morning News: "I've talked to all the local mayors: West Mifflin, Homestead, Munhall, West Homestead, and I still have an open invitation to her to have a parade here in our town. I think it would be nice to have a big parade at the Waterfront."

Maddie Poppe from Iowa was the winner of the viewer voting and Caleb Hutchinson was the runner up. It was announced last night the couple has been secretly dating. Brennan's reaction? "The fix was definitely in. When they announced that news... it all made sense."

Barrett says next, she's moving to Nashville to pursue her singing career.
