CLARION, Pa. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A suspect is in custody near Clarion University after a nearly 12 hour police situation.

The situation began Tuesday evening near the Clarion River Bridge on Route 322 and the suspect was taken into custody by PA State Police, with Clarion University Police assisting, around 8 a.m. near Clarion University’s Memorial Stadium without incident. It is not clear why police were searching for the man.

The University closed the Stadium but said at the time there was “no indication that this incident poses any danger to the campus community.”

The campus remained open and classes are scheduled as normal Wednesday.

The suspect is 29-years-old and is a “known male” to authorities.

The incident forced area schools to close including Clarion Area School District, Clarion County Career Center, CL/Clarion 1 and CL/Clarion 2 Head Start and Immaculate Conception School.
