PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A tornado watch has been issued until 11 p.m. Tuesday for much of Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas including Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Washington, Lawrence, Butler and Westmorland Counties.

AccuWeather meteorologist Bob Larson tells the KDKA Radio Afternoon News the reason for the watch is because, “some of the storms to our north in particularly are not simply heavy or severe but they are producing spinning rotation.”

At least one confirmed tornado has already touched down in Crawford County in Northwestern Pennsylvania.

“(The storms) are growing in intensity and very quickly I might add,” said Larson.

The good news is as quickly as they develop, they should just as quickly move on through the area but the threat for strong storms will stick around into the early evening.
