PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) –  Testimony resumes Wednesday morning in the homicide trial of former East Pittsburgh police officer Michael Rosfeld, charged in the shooting death of 17-year-old Antwon Rose.

On Tuesday’s first day of testimony, defense attorney Patrick Thomassey told the jury police are trained to make split second decisions and he painted the area of East Pittsburgh and North Braddock, where events unfolded, as a “valley full of crime.”

But attorney Lee Merritt who represents Antwon Rose’s family in the civil case told reporters that’s a false narrative.

“The idea that it’s open season on unarmed black boys because the community is violent is absurd, it’s dangerous,” said Merit.

The day’s testimony ended with23-year-old Lashaun Livingston who took the cell phone video of Rosfeld shooting Antwon Rose.

Afterward she describes Rosfeld saying “he was red, he was very upset, he was crying.”

Another neighbor say the police stop and testified she said to herself “please don’t run” when Rosfeld ordered Rose and the others out of the car. They did run and she says she shouted, “You shot those boys for running.”

Rose’s mother let the courtroom emotional two times including when pictures of her son’s bullet wounds were shown.
