Tricky Morning Commute In Store For Wednesday

1 to 3 inches of snow expected with freezing rain and sleet

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Expect a tricky commute Wednesday morning.

There's a winter weather advisory from 1:00 a.m. Wednesday through noon for Allegheny, Beaver, Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland Counties.

The Pittsburgh area is expected to get 1 to 3 inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain overnight into Wednesday morning but AccuWeather’s Elliot Abrams tells KDKA Radio snow accumulation totals could change.

“It may be coming down pretty hard at the time of a changeover so any delay in the changeover could double the accumulation just like that,” said Abrams.

The majority of the accumulation during the morning rush should be snow if temperatures rise early enough it will be a mix of sleet and freezing rain.

Higher amounts of 3 to 6 inches are expected in the Laurel Highlands.

Freezing precipitation will change over to rain or drizzle in the afternoon if a high of 40 degrees expected.

Looking ahead: Temperatures will be around 50 Friday and could get into the low 60s on Sunday.
