PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The deadline for voters to register in Pennsylvania for next month's general election is Tuesday.

You can register at, by mail (if postmarked today) or in person.

Allegheny County residents have until 5 p.m. to go to the County Office Building downtown

This year there has been a surge in young people registering to vote in PA. Since the Parkland High School shooting in Florida this past February, the number of people under 30 registered to vote is up 16 percent more than any other state.

Jill Greene who heads the Pennsylvania League of Women Voters tells KDKA Radio, “I think it’s just an overall drive to become more politically involved. I think obviously the 2016 Election was very emotionally charged for a lot of people.”

The League is pushing for more changes, allowing 16 and 17-year-olds to pre-register to vote. And allowing voter registration the same day you vote. 11 states already allow that.
