Two More Rabid Raccoons Found In Allegheny County

Third rabid raccoon found in Pittsburgh’s Morningside neighborhood

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — Two more rabid raccoons have been found in Allegheny County.

One was found in Pleasant Hills near the Jefferson Hills border Clairton Boulevard and North Lewis Run Road.

The other was in Pittsburgh's Morningside neighborhood near Chislett Street and President Way. This is the third rabid raccoon found in Morningside.

Two have been found in Mount Lebanon.

23 rabid animals have been reported in the county this year; 12 raccoons, seven bats, two cats, one groundhog and one fox.

If you see an animal acting strangely, call police. Health officials also recommend resident ensure pets are up-to-date on vaccinations.

Anyone who is bitten, scratched or otherwise exposed to saliva from a stray or any other animal, should immediately cleanse the contact area with soap and water, seek emergency medical treatment and call the Allegheny County Health Department at 412-687-2243 to report the incident.
