PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Two police officers have injuries after shots were fired at them last night in North Braddock.

The officers were checking out a report from a woman who said it was possible two of her teenage sons were being held hostage in connection with stolen drugs and money.

Based on a tip, the two officers went to a vacant house at the intersection of 13th and Franklin streets around 10:45 p.m. Someone inside the home fired at the officers, hitting one in the chest. Body armor stopped the bullet. That officer has a cut on his forearm and the other officer has a cut on scalp, possibly from flying glass or bullets.

As back up officers arrived a man was seen fleeing the house. Port Authority Police spotted him around 1:00 near the Hawkins Village Housing Complex in Rankin and arrested him. 20-year-old Dejon Howard is being charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal trespass and weapons violations.

Two other people inside the vacant home in North Braddock were interviewed. Police say they were not involved in the shooting.

Police also say there was never an abduction.
