Two School Districts Closed Monday Due To Threats

Apollo-Ridge and Blackhawk Have Canceled Classes

Two school districts have cancelled classes today due to threats.

Apollo-Ridge School District learned Sunday afternoon of a “threatening statement” sent to a student on Instagram.

Blackhawk School District in Beaver County also canceled today's classes because of statements made on social media.

It is not clear if the threats are related as police continue to investigate.

Almost daily since the Parkland, FL shooting, a Pittsburgh-area school district has dealt with a threat. Police departments are being stretched thin as officers investigate each of the threats. Dozens have been investigated. Some led to canceled classes and some arrests. No matter the cost and the time it takes to check out a threat, most of which are hoaxes, authorities say they want any and all threats reported.

Now authorities are talking with students about the consequences of hoaxes. Last month, State Police talked with students at Connellsville Area Senior High and middle schools. Fayette County DA Richard Bower says that effort will continue. Assemblies are being scheduled at other schools in Fayette County.
