U.S. Army Corps Of Engineers Use Social Media To Highlight Lock And Dam Safety

July 30, 2018 - 6:14 pm

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Pittsburgh District is warning area boaters against dangerous boating practices after receiving photos of a man fishing with three children on the ice breaker wall beneath the Allegheny River Lock and Dam Number 9 in Armstrong County.

The corps posted the photos in a Facebook post.

The photos show the children wearing life vests — the only good thing the corps sees — and the man’s boat tied off on the ice breaker.

The post also reminds boaters that “at no time is it recommended to ever go inside the warning buoys, let alone tie off on the ice breakers below the dam. This behavior is dangerous and illegal.”
