Washington Boulevard Flood Gates Fail Again

Police had to manually activate the system

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Flood gates on Washington Boulevard failed again Tuesday evening after the area received heavy rainfall.

The issues started in early March when a motorist struck a warning pole and component box.

The City says they have tried to reinstall the damaged equipment, but have seen inconsistent results.

The system was manually activated Tuesday evening ahead of heavy rainfall, but one gate located at Washington and Allegheny River Boulevards failed to come down.

A statement from Mayor Peduto’s office said “The city is continuing to work on the system and hopefully will replace it with new technology. Until a permanent solution if found, Pittsburgh Police will continue to set up physical barricades to ensure the public’s safety.”
