Weekend Rain Causes Monday Road Closures

Several roads in the area are closed until further noticed following near record rainfall Sunday

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pittsburgh saw 3.7 inches of rainfall Sunday, making it the second wettest day in the city's history. 

Remnants from tropical storm Gordon hit Western Pennsylvania with rain beginning Friday night with hope it will clear out by Tuesday morning. The storm increased Pittsburgh's accumulation for the year to 40.90 inches of rain, 13 inches above normal, according to the National Weather Service. 

As a result, several roads in the Pittsburgh area closed indefinitely Monday morning as crews begin cleanup, including the "bathtub" portion of the Parkway East. Others experienced flooding, but are still open to traffic.

·         Freeport Road (Route 1001) between Powers Run Road and Boyd Avenue in O'Hara Township

·         Stewart Road / Berryman Avenue (Route 3011) between Brownsville Road and Stoltz Road in South Park Township

·         Boyce Road (Route 3006) between Hunting Ridge Road and Washington Road (Route 19) in South Fayette

·         Piney Fork Road (Route 3014) between Brownsville Road and Snowden Road in South Park Township

·         Baldwin Road/Streets Run Road (Route 2046) between Ramp Street in the City of Pittsburgh and Brentwood Road in Baldwin Borough

·         Westbound I-367 between the Midland (Exit 38A) and Chippewa/Route 51 (Exit 31) interchanges

·         Brush Creek Road/Marion Hill Road (Route 1019) between Powell Road and Mellon Road in New Sewickley Township

·         McClain Road (Route 4019) between Blackhawk Road in Chippewa Township and Elmbrook Road in South Beaver Township

·         Shenango Road (Route 4021) between Charles Street and Park Road in Chippewa Township

·         Dogwood Drive/Concord Circle Road (Route 1029) between Harmony Road in Daugherty Township and Concord Church Road in North Sewickley Township

·         Hartzell School Road (Route 1015) between Route 588 in Marion Township and Fombell Road in Franklin Township

·         Shadyrest Road/Soap Road (Route 1008) between Celia Road and Water Front Road in Franklin Township

·         Todd Road/Independence Road (Route 3013) between Tank Farm Road and Bocktown Road in Independence Township

·         Service Creek Road (Route 3020) between Valley View Drive and Parrish Drive in Hopewell Township

The following road has been reopened to traffic:

·         Route 588 between Route 65 (Mercer Road) and River Road in North Sewickley Township
