PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Wendell August Forge knows what it’s like to have to rebuild after a devastating fire.

In March of 2010 a fire ravaged the only remaining forge in Pennsylvania, burning it to the ground.

The Mercer County forge lost the building that was registered on the National List of Historic Places but they rebuilt.

To help in the recovery and rebuilding efforts with Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and the three churches recently destroyed by arson in Louisiana , the forge has crafted the “Notre-Dame De Paris” benefit ornament.

“Just like our own forge, we knew the Cathedral was worth saving, and we knew we wanted to be a small part of that endeavor. Then, as news came of other churches in Louisiana- Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, St. Mary Baptist Church and the Greater Union Baptist Church- being destroyed by arson, we realized there was a higher calling,” a statement on their website said.

Proceeds from the sales will benefit Notre Dame and the three Louisiana churches.

The product is for sale now and will begin shipping on June 1.

“The Wendell August Forge family decided to craft this ornament because we know the power and destructiveness of fire. However, we also know the resilience and love that follows.”

You can purchase the ornament here.
