PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The latest on the traffic and transit situation on the South Side:

Traffic is moving today on West Carson Street and the Smithfield Street Bridge. Both were closed after Sunday's freight train derailment.

Part of East Carson Street between Arlington Avenue and the bridge is still closed.

No word yet on when the Station Square T stop will reopen. The light rial tracks there were heavily damaged. Spokesman Adam Brandolph tells the KDKA Radio Morning News: "We know we're going to have to replace the rail... and proabably 4000 feet of overhead wire."

Larry and John asked Brandolph about the elevated structure that takes the light rail up to the panhandle bridge: "We want to absolutely make sure it's safe, that's the integrity of the structure integrity is still there, that nothing that fell onto the structure would increrase the likelyhood that it would collapse. "

Until further notice T service from the South Hills will continue to pass through Arlington, adding up to 30 minutes to the commute.
