PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - According to the lifestyle website, Best Life, White Oak has been declared the "most boring town in Pennsylvania."

Best Life determined the dullest towns in every state using US Census data and the American Community Survey. The report looked at factors like highest median age, if the average age was higher than the speed limit, and fewest things to do in each town.

The Allegheny County borough has a population of less than 8-thousand, with a median age of 52 and only two entertainment spots.

Ina Marton, the Mayor of White Oak, tells KDKA Radio's Marty Griffin and Wendy Bell that she is happy about her town getting this press because it makes White Oak unique.

Marton praises the school system and the low-crime in her hometown along with the no-kill animal Shelton she started back in 2003, saving over 13,000 dogs and cats.

“We’re very quiet about it but we’re very proud of it,” Marton said.

She also says that the community is one where everybody knows one another. White Oak is a place where you go to the grocery store and expect someone to say “hello” with a hug.

“To me, it is an honor to be the mayor of White Oak because I was born here and now I am mayor of the town I was born in. I am so honored.“

The love that Marton has for her hometown is contagious, something that helped name her Mayor of the Year.

“Come out and see us anytime. I’d be glad to take you around our 6.35 square miles city.”
