PITCAIRN, Pa. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A Pitcairn man is taking a little stroll to raise money for kids and his community.

On September 1, 68-year-old Gary Agate will spend the next two months walking to Florida!

Agate who volunteers a lot of his time wants to “prove you can accomplish tough goals and raise money for the local Pitcairn community kids.”

The distance from Pittsburgh to Florida is about 1,200 miles. And it would take you 460 hours to walk 1,200 miles; that's about 60, 8 hour working days.

Agate wants to not only raise funds for his community but always wants to show the younger generations that everyone has challenges and obstacles to overcome in life and he hopes, inspire them to persevere through them to reach their goals and fulfill their dreams.”

Agate says he is in the “fourth quarter of life, nearing the Red Zone,” and wants to do something inspiring while he still has the energy to do it

The journey will also raise funds for PitCare, and organization that worked to keep up the library and community center in Pitcairn as well as continuing the food pantry and offering after school programs.

There are also plans to open a community coffee shop.
