PITTSBURGH (News Radio 1020 KDKA) - Fear not fans of warmth and spring, warm weather is on the horizon!

For the first time since February 23rd, the region has the chance to see a high temperature above 70 degrees later this week...

In fact, the European computer model gives the Pittsburgh area a 70%+ chance of seeing temperatures in the 70s by the weekend...

This is great! You'll be able to go outside and actually do things without a jacket, gloves, a scarf, or another other winter attire.

You may even get to see a few buds on the otherwise dead looking trees!

There's just one teenie-weenie catch.

It won't last.

Yep, you read that correctly.

The best way I can describe this weekend is an island of warmth in a sea of cold.

The pattern we seem to be stuck in, has plans to usher in more high's in the 30s and 40s for the rest of the month rather than the delightful 60s and 70s we'll get this weekend...

I've looked at both long range climate models, the European and the (American) CFS models. Both have below normal temperatures hanging on though early to mid-May.

Now one thing to remember is the temperature departure is all relative to "normal", so if the model is projecting temperatures to be 10 degrees below normal and your average temperate is in the mid 60s, a 50 degree day won't be that bad.

But hey, at least you're not the Pirates, where winter just seemingly follows them around!

Until next time....
